HUNited is a new, independent and non-political civil initiative dedicated to supporting Hungarians living abroad throughout every stage of a potential return to Hungary. The initiative was founded on the recognition that returning home is not merely an administrative or logistical process, but a complex life transition involving significant emotional, social and professional challenges.

The creation of HUNited was preceded by an international survey involving more than 300 Hungarians living in 23 countries. The findings clearly showed that people are seeking far more than practical information. They are looking for a supportive community, authentic shared experiences, and professional guidance to help them successfully reintegrate and rebuild their lives in Hungary.

HUNited is a volunteer-led network that brings together professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including social pedagogues, mental health professionals, coaches, IT specialists, financial and property experts, as well as communications and marketing professionals. Many members of the team currently live, or have previously lived, abroad, giving them first-hand experience of both expatriate life and the challenges of returning home.

HUNited’s long-term vision is to establish a national and international professional network that connects Hungarians living abroad with experts in Hungary, civil society organisations, higher education institutions and public sector stakeholders. Through research, community building, knowledge sharing and cross-sector collaboration, the initiative aims to contribute to successful return migration and long-term reintegration.

HUNited believes that the knowledge, skills and international perspective gained by Hungarians abroad represent an invaluable asset for Hungary. Our mission is to build a bridge between the Hungarian diaspora and Hungary, ensuring that returning home is not defined by uncertainty, but by opportunity.
